In the north east of York Region along Hwy 48 is a drive way that mysteriously leads into a forest. There is a sign that reads Bill Fisch Forest Stewardship and Education Centre. If you turn and drive into the forest you will come across this building that quite remarkable and interesting. The story of the Regional Forests starts in the 1920’s when the Regional Government took control of the Forest tracks. The Region makes hiking trails free for the public to hike and maintains the forest. In 2015 a building was opened called the Bill Fisch Forest Stewardship and Education Centre which is Canadian first living building and LEEDS Platinum Zero Water and Zero Energy. The building looks modern and is comfortable and yet has a low to zero impact on the environment. An this building is quite remarkable… I luckily attended a Christmas Party at the centre and took some pictures… I encourage people to see the building, there are student tours and educational groups that use the facility. I do encourage people to visit and take a nice nature walk while you are there…
