Bike Tour to old Forts-Ramkot Fort (5th Part)

As I told you already in (Friday Favorite Post ) Bike Tour to old Forts - Rohtas Fort(1st Part)

That My bikers club Cross Route Int planned a tour to Azad Jammu & Kashmir on 5th Feb for Kashmir day. I want to visit Three forts Rohtas Fort, Mangla Fort and Ramkot Fort I have told you about Rohtas Fort, Mangla Fort Now the last part is Ramkot Fort.

For full Album of Ramkot fort

Now when I was going to Ramkot Fort from Mirpur on Bikes we reached at Mangla view water sports club at 3 o clock and took a boat towards Ramkot Fort he charged us 4000 for (5 to 6 person boat) after 35 minutes we reached at Ramkot Fort.

It was unforgettable journey during boat ride there were magnificent views of Mangla lake after reaching Ramkot Fort my feeling was walking in a Hollywood movie Bond series.

It is surrounded by water from 3 side you have to take boat if you are going from Punjab side If you are going from Kashmir side there are also a road goes near to fort.

You have to take 400 big steps of stairs to reach the fort. Ramkot fort is a hidden gem of Kashmir.

History

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Muslim rulers of Kashmir built numerous forts, one of which is the Ramkot Fort, now surrounded by the water of the Mangla lake.During excavations it revealed that this fort is constructed over the site of a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva.Near the site of the ancient temples, relics were found that are thought to be from between the 5th and 9th centuries.

The fort is located on the historic border between Kashmir and Punjab. This defensive complex is a perfect example of Muslim military architecture. There are not many known historical documents about it ; however, according to some historians the fort was built by a Gakkhar named Toglu. After the Gakkhars , it was controlled by the Dogras
