Best treks in and around Mumbai

This is my first list on Local Guides Connect and I am planning on keep updating this with as a log of monthly treks that I undertake with my trek buddies. I have very recently moved to Mumbai and it is only after reaching here that I was acquainted with trekking.

My first trek was there to the highest point in Maharashtra and that is Kalsubai which I had undertaken upon insistence of a flatmate. Two things that I’ve enjoyed the most in this trek-

  1. You get to meet a lot of new people and since the share at least one thing in common with you it is fairly easy to befriend them and if the trek involves overnight camping then you get to enjoy the bonfire, star gazing and witness the utter silence that night on a far flunged location brings. You perhaps would never want to go away from the silence and the stars, it is addictive.

  2. After all the trek, the climb you get to see one of the most beautiful scene you would ever see in your life, and the way that morning breeze brushes against your face, against your whole entire body, it gives you a pleasurable experience at some deep psychological level. Suddenly, you feel relieved of any and all the tiredness from the trek itself. Just indulge yourself in admiring the view and enjoy the breeze for as long as you can.

During Kalsubai trek I met interesting people and was most influenced by a person who has been regularly trekking for last 5-6 years. He has been to some Himalayan treks as well, just to give you an idea of how interesting people sometimes can be at places as random as a mountain in the Western Ghats. As far as the scenic beauty is concerned here are a few images for your ready reference.
