Best time to change a business name after adding a wrong entry

Hi.

I added a place with the title “Cube interior design and cabinet” (added in Persian), but I wanted to remove the word “cabinet” from the title.

I thought if I edited that today, it would get in the loooooong process of approval (pending, I HATE the word pending) so I was wondering when would be the best time to change the name to get it approved right away.

Hi @Kia_Faraji

There is not a best time for editing a place.

Most of the edits are verified by checking the “digital footprints” of a place.

What is the “official” name of the business? What is the name that appears on the storefront? That one is the name to add.

Of course, if there is no the possibility for a "digital feedback, the edit will not applied, or pending.

For more information about the approval process, please read: Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?

Hi @ErmesT

Thanks for the tip.

By best time, I mean would it be ok to edit the name just the day it was approved? Or is it better to wait a few days and then do so… Could you guide me about that please?

And TBH, I believe the “digital footprint” thing works so inefficient, there are places with incomplete or spam names, I added storefront photo, then I suggested name change, but they’re still pending after a few months!! Or maybe the name recognition is weak in local languages… Also places that have their phone numbers on the storefront, or on their business card’s photo, but the phone number doesn’t get approved!

What a lot of follow up questions

Let me share one experience:

When creating a new place or making edits to the name of a place the best advice is to double check for errors before hitting submit.

The spam detection filter is very sensitive to repeated edits in quick succession. Sometimes one follow-up edit is possible to get approved. But edit #3 to the same field is always going to pending or rejected.

I don’t think there is a recommended delay between similar edits. It think it also depends on your trust score. If you push your luck too far your trust score will go down.

I have a private list on Google Maps where I keep issues that needs fixing later. That makes it easy to let go and forget. I will then check this list maybe every second month.

I hope this helps a little.

Cheers

Morten

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

Thanks for the reply, then I guess I’ll wait for that before another edit.

Everything would be easier, @Kia_Faraji , without people who add wrong data, or duplicate places, and finding a right balance between approving the good edits and blocking the wrong ones is not always simple. In the world there are more than 120 millions of Local Guides, and the only way to filter the huge amount of edits is through an algorithm. Algorithms are not perfect, and the rules given to the system are improved day by day, but obviously it is not always possible to filter correctly all the data. Programs are always under improvement, and my hope is that in the future adding data will be easier.

Unfortunately, when the filter were less, a lot of wrong data have been added.

That’s why all of us are experiencing some not applied.

However, regarding your question, doing an edit after a day or after a week doesn’t make any difference.
