I recently updated the name of a restaurant in Paris close to where I live, I later found out there has been a change of ownership, not just the name. However, that business has kept all the reviews of the former owners. Even though this is still a Chinese restaurant, the menu is completely different. What is the best way to proceed? Mark the business as closed and open a new one? I have already put the request to mark it as closed, but I’m not sure that was the best course of action, hoping you can guide me here
I would suggest that in this instance, a name change would suffice. If the Google business listing carried over to the new owner, it’s most likely that it was included in the cost of the sale.
A name change would update the listing without any potential disruption to the business’s operation.
The correct procedure is the one mentioned by @EugeneKostylev : The old business must be closed (with the original name) and a new one must be created, with the new name.
Replacing the name it is not the correct thing to do, unfortunately there isn’t a way to revert your change other than editing it back. You should edit the name first, then close the business and open the new one
Sometimes, when the business we change the name, Google Maps ask to us if it is a name change or a new business, but it is better to make two separate edits
