Best method adding historic street placards

The city of Richland (Washington) has placed markers explaining the reason behind the naming of some of the streets. There are around 200 placards now that detail the history of the people the street were named for.

I thought I would locate each marker to help create a walking tour. My first few attempts have failed with
“NOT APPLIED · Place creation Google couldn’t verify your edit”

I have a list of the streets and have photographed many of the markers but I see no way of adding them to Google.

I would prefer to use Lat/Lng as all of these markers are located on citizen property but clearly visible from the street.

What would be the best method of submitting these historic markers?

Hi @CavemanSavant ,

Have you considered to use My Maps. Here you don’t need to wait or hope for approvals. You decide where to put the pins. Such maps can be shared publicly and indexed by Google Search.

If you use My Maps you can also add some general text to describe the purpose of your map. And you can draw a suggested line/rute between them.

The help pages for my maps can be found here.

When there is no appropriate category to use on Google Maps it is Googles descreet way of saying they don’t want such places on Google Maps.

I fear you don’t like to hear that your project might not be of interest to everyone’s. But that is how it is. Sorry.

Best of luck with your project.

Cheers

Hello @CavemanSavant

“Maps” allows community edits to create Points of interests which include commercial establishment, service agencies, scenic points, tourist attractions etc.
In my opinion, a plaque can’t become a tourist attraction.

However, your intention is well understood. You wish everybody should know the history behind the name through those markers.
Nevertheless, an update in street view imagery will start showing that & the interested visitors will read that certainly.
