Benghazi is a city that went through two wars in less than 6 years, some thought the city will take many years to start recovering, especially the downtown area where the major destruction took place and where the theater is located.
In 2017 the military operations ended and locals made it a priority to start the restoration project of the downtown theater. Benghazi is known for being culturally active and the plan was that this project will bring life back to the devastated part of the city.
Fast forward to today and here I’m attending a sold out show in the heart of downtown Benghazi where the background is kilometers of destroyed buildings. Nevermind how good the show was, attending the show it self was a spectacle. It sent a strong message that this city is on the road to recovery and hopefully soon in a few years the whole downtown area is rebuilt.
*Visiting Benghazi or Libya in general is not advised at the moment, but this story goes to show that there’s a brighter side to this country.
