Today I want to share about the festival Jamai Sasthi.It is a Bengali cultural festival.At first, let me inform in detail what is Jamai Sasthi.It is a special occasion in our bengali culture.“Jamai” means son-in-law and “Sasthi” means Sixth.Actually sixth indicate the time of this festival.The festival is held on sixth day of Shukla paksha in Jayestha month of traditional Bengali Hindu calendar.“Sukla Paksha” is a Bengali time and “Jayestha” is Bengali month.The festival indicates the relationship between son-in-law and mother-in-law.It is a beautiful festival in Bengali culture.It shows the beautiful bonding between son-in-law and mother-in-law.

It is a family festival.The family.This day, the families and relatives become united.Then they celebrated the festival together.
This day, all mother-in-laws worship a Goddess whose name is Sasthi.They pray the Goddess for happy and prosperity and seek blessings for their son-in-laws.
The festival is very famous in West Bengal, in India.Almost every families celebrate this festival.This day, a party is organised in-laws.Every mother-in-laws invite their daughter and son-in-law at their own home.The mother-in-laws cook special dishes for their son-in-law.Every son-in-laws go to their in-laws.Mother-in-law welcome their daughter and son-in-law and takes care of her son-in-law very lovingly.
It is a tradition and custome in our Mother-in-laws observes many rituals.She gives “phota” of curd to her son-in-law’s forehead.The “phota” means drops.This is drops of curd.She tied yellow threads of her son-in-law’s wrist for his wellbeing.Then she give him many gifts and mother-in-law touch a plate of six fruit to her son-in-law’s forehead.Then son-in-law eat the special dishes which are cooked by his mother-in-laws.
The main dish of the festival Jamai Sasthi is curry of Hilsa fish and Rice.The main fruit is mango of this mother-in-law fanned her son-in-law with palm leaf.It is a old tradition in our bengali culture.The other delicious dishes are prawn malaikari,luchi,potato curry,many varaties of fried dishes, chicken curry, mutton curry, many varieties of sweets like Sandesh,Malpoa,Rosogolla etc.It is grand feast which is celebrated in-laws.
It is a very joyful festival.Every family enjoy whole day with their daughter and son-in-law.It is a day of good food and enjoying a good time with son-in-law.This year the festival was held on 25th May.
