Hello Local Guides! This time I’m joining @HiroyukiTakisawa #monthlytopic to share about delicious seafood in Belitung Island, Indonesia.

Indonesia as a maritim country is blessed with plenty of fresh seafood anywhere. When I visited Belitung, I had lunch at RM Sinar Laut to taste the best seafood dishes on the island. Indonesian usually eat them with steamed white rice and sambal (chilli sauce).

Here are the seafood dishes I’ve tried:

  1. Ikan Ayam-Ayam Bakar (Grilled Triggerfish)
    A combination of kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and special local ingredients gives this grilled fish a uniquely sweet flavor. The fillets inside are so soft and each bite is infused with the aromatic marinade.

  2. Sup Gangan Katarap (Katarap Gangan Soup)
    Gangan is a special yellow soup with turmeric from Bangka-Belitung Islands province. Katarap fish is usually used for this recipe. It tastes spicy, sweet and sour with the slices of pineapple.

  3. Cumi Goreng Tepung (Crispy Fried Calamari)
    Squid fried with flour is definitely everyone’s favorite, including here in Indonesia. Rather than eat them as an appetizer, we often prefer to eat this crispy and delicate dish with white rice.

  4. Udang Goreng Asam (Tamarind Fried Shrimp)
    These shrimps are cooked with tamarind pulp and kecap manis to create a caramelized gravy. The sweet, sour and savory flavors of tamarind pair so well with the shrimp.

All of them look tasty but if I can try only one dish, I’ll choose Udang Goreng Asam :yum: It must be delicious for me!!

@Ant_Bad_Yogi yes, they are so yummy! I love Katarap Gangan Soup the most. The combination of spicy, sweet and sour flavors makes this dish very unique. I think it is kinda similar with tom yum from Thailand. I guess you would love it!

Udang Goreng Asam is my favorite too! It has a unique taste. I wish you have a chance to try it someday :blush:
