Being a student of environmental engineering

Hello everyone,

My name is María Fernanda Castro and I want to share with you my experience visiting protected areas of Ecuador, you will wonder why protected areas? Well, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know several of these places and most of the time have been since I started studying environmental engineering.

But what are protected areas? The protected areas are sea or land spaces, effective to achieve conservation of biological diversity, natural resources and associated cultural resources, in the long term.

Currently, Ecuador has 56 protected areas and 202 protective forests, did you know that? The 56 protected areas represent 20% and the 202 protected forests represent approximately 9.72% of the national territory. And if you’re wondering, what protective forests are? Protective forests are all public or private plant formations that are not available for agriculture or livestock, their functions are to conserve water, soil, flora and fauna.

It is a lot of information that must be shared and for that reason I will tell you about: Mindo, Cerro Blanco, La Chocolatera, Puerto Hondo, Santay Island, Samanes, mangroves Churute, Galapagos, among others.

I am very happy to share it with you through Local Guides Connect.
