Being a Local Guides in Makassar, Indonesia

Hello there! I am Nawa from Makassar, South Celebes, Indonesia. Currently I am working as a physical therapist student in Hasanuddin University and I am also freelance writer and a local guides enthusiast. I love travelling and giving advice about good places and travelling tips across South Celebes. Before I am talking about how it is being a local guide in Makassar, I would like to tell some short stories about how I become local guides.

My journey in Local Guide started at the end of 2019, as the first time I post review about health facilities where I did my intern in Gowa, South Celebes. Actually it was start accidentally when I asked a friend of mine about how she always took photos in every places we visited but never post it on SNS. Then she told me about local guide feature in Google, and that’s how I become one of local guides’ enthusiasts in Makassar, with 1% top rank achievement this past months.

At first I really enjoyed how local guides works. I could share tips, and review about places, which is really useful and I could give advice to the owner how they could increase their service. But then Google started giving me bonus like free Google one, bus voucher, and a ticket to Google connect (still going some terms and condition, but still dope!).

Being connected in one of the largest community in the world give me opportunity to develop my writing skill, and of course videos, and photo takings. Being local guides also give me more new habits where I always use Google maps in my daily basis and of course being a local guide makes me feel happy about helping others!

This march, I have being a local guide for 6 months. I learned from other top ranks in my area of how to write a proper review and make some good list that could help others. Better than everything, I really appreciate how Google let us contributing in a very easy yet helpful ways in our daily. In Makassar, there are so many places and local guide gave me opportunity to share a very authentic, good food, good places, whether it hidden, or just opened. I think I could help those good business when I wrote a good review on them.
