I guess I can’t just answer the question about the most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide. I just enjoy so much the experience of visiting a place with my famliy, friends or even alone and can observe, feel the moment, taste some food if it is a resturant or contemplate the place and its art. So I can say is the feeling of enjoying the moment and the chance to share with others with pictures and words.
I’ve been a local guide since 2017. That year I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to help a ngo, so I was living there for 6 weeks. While I was in Buenos Aires, I wanted to know all over the city, I visited the most famous restaurants, museums, discos, buildings, etcetera and I was supporting my visits with Google Maps as GPS. I discovered that I could review every place I was and that cold be seen by a lot of people.
Later, every place in Argentina where I went was reviewed by me, my first contributions was as I’ve said about the most famous places, but also I started to review small or unknown places where I went. I was feeling very good as tourist.
When I came back to Mexico City (where I live and have been lived for all my life), obviously I was not feeling as a tourist anymore, I need to say I stopped reviewing places for a little bit. Of course, days later I went to places in my neighborhood and city, I am talking about small places, coffees, stores, dinners and others that I didn’t go before. I felt also the same, knowing new places in my own city as when I was in Argentina.
I realized there are a lot of places I don’t know, places I can discover and share my experience with people, invite them to go and enjoy the moment, the experience and support those places, because there are incredible places not so much known, but If I can share them with more people, maybe could make able those places to exist and improve.
That is what the Local Guides program means to me!
