Being a Local Guide

In itself, joining the Local Guide program is not that hard, but going deep into it, and making it from freetime activity to a (n unpayed) part-time job for yourself takes hard work. And that’s what this program means to me. It all started with a boring afternoon and I was just trying out what’s that, and felt like this was a game, but didn’t really take care about until I found out what it’s really about. That was the point it became more like a job for me, even though I don’t get any salary for that. I realized that working in this program can help everyone around me and in the world. I found out that all the information on Google Maps come from Local Guides, and my favorite feature and the reason why I like using Google is based on this program. I mean, even in areas where Google Maps and social programs are not that popular, you can’t really search a place that doesn’t exist on Maps, and you can find out almost any information you want to. Since I live in an area where this is not as popular as elsewhere, I felt I have to change, and start making Maps more useful in my area, and to make searching on Google Maps more popular than asking on several social media platforms or calling so many friends if some of them knows it.
Google’s point system and level ups in the program helped me keep on going, that’s something really nice, of course I had to be hard working and strong in mind to keep on going even if my changes were denied, but the points, levels made me a bit addicted, and the monthly reviews and other summarizing e-mails made me not to forget about working on the program. It also happened to me that I wasn’t really caring about this, but after about the third e-mail coming about how popular my photos are, or how many people liked my reviews reminded me that yes, this what I like about that, not just the point system and knowing that I help people, but the encouraging messages I get from Google.
If anybody asks me whether this program worth joining or not, I would definitely say that one of the greatest feeling of my life is helping through this. And I wouldn’t say no to anyone who would like to join, and maybe would like to get some help from me. I think involving friends and working in a group makes it even a greater feeling, because than you not just help but you can have quality time, and also make new friends. The Local Guides program has a great community, and I think the reason that this community’s strength is in, that everyone has quite a same attitude to helping others, and there is the mutual topic, the Local Guide program’s features and uses.
So, this is how a boring afternoon changed my everyday routine, my life and my attitude to using Google Maps.
