Being A Local Guide Is My Social Media

Social Media is incredible! It consumes our lives on a minute by minute basis and has taken so many forms. If it’s through hashtags, tweets, or DM’s everyone has their niche; that’s the beauty of social media! My niche is being a Local Guide.

Why do I love being a Local Guide?

Being a Local Guide has given me an avenue to post about my city, Kansas City, write reviews about far away places, and photos of my favorite meals that help people! But I’m most passionate about discovering new places

I’ve always been a traveler; whether it’s across an ocean or going on long drives and getting lost. Being a Local Guide has given my journeys more of a purpose. One of my favorite things now is driving, stopping at a random shopping district/town/neighborhood, then walking around mapping the area. I get to discover the character of that area while also giving someone else the opportunity as well through my contributions.

Since returning from Connect Live 2018, I’ve found a new group of friends in this new Social Media space. A group of friends that have taught me how to perfect this craft. They’ve also taught me how to improve my reviews and take better photo angles, but most importantly, a community with similar goals!

I can’t wait to see where my new social media addiction takes me. I hope you see you all around too!

Your devotion to Local Guides is impressive @lakeoftea . I know I’ve looked for you on other social networks, and you simply don’t post there, but here, and in your Maps contributions, you are always active!

@lakeoftea its so easy to forget that our community truly is like a way of social media. I mean - we share AND discuss with each other, so it definitely is one! Great post, bro. It is great that you also get the urge to check out an unfamiliar part in your community and start mapping. It truly does allow you to break out of a shell, in a way, to get to learn more about the character and the locals.

Much luck!

I learned first hand how @lakeoftea does an amazing job posting while traveling. When we both ended up in Arizona at the same time he connected that we were in the same area from posting about a similar place. He does get around that Mr. Globe Trotter!:wink:
