I live in Sumgait, Azerbaijan and work in Baku, Azerbaijan. When I first came across the concept of Local Guide a few years ago, I was very excited and I quickly realized how important it would be to became one. Our country became independent only less than 20 years ago after the collapse of the Soviet Union and it started to grow rapidly, very rapidly. New businesses, restaurants, hotels started to emerge not by months, but by days. And if you wanted to find these places, it was quite challenging, simply because you did not know where on earth they are located. With ever-growing world of smart phones, everyone has access to google maps, online and offline. And I imagined how much people could benefit from inputs of people who would update the maps and add these places. So since then I have added and edited a good number of places on the map, and thus helped many people like myself who live here, as well as tourists visiting our country to find places and get there on time without scratching their heads and having a hard time figuring out where that place is. I wish people who read this post will be further encouraged to add their contribution to the google maps, especially in Azerbaijan - which is located on the crossroads of Europe and Asia on the ancient Silk Road, a young country with a lot to show and offer.
