Being a (junior) Local Guide

I enjoy playing video games. So much that when I get stuck for days, I go to YouTube to watch walk throughs.

Earlier this year, I was at a border town in Ogun State where the residents didn’t know how to fully explore the many benefits of Google map.

I overheard one of them trying to give directions to someone via the phone and he was getting frustrated his caller didn’t seem to understand all he was saying.

I asked him to share his location with the caller via the maps. He then complained that where we were, wasn’t on the map.

My boys scout instinct kicked in and I added up the church on the map and also thought a few of them how to do so. Especially, sharing their location using the mapped out church.

I also showed them my mappings (views and photos) . I can say from their faces that they were impressed.

  1. Being a Google Local Guide is in part creating walk throughs, for map users to have a footprint to walk in and also an adventure, for me, on its own
