Food and sustainability - two big key points in my life. I love Google Maps not only because I’m the most disoriented person you will find on the face of Earth. I totally love the fact that people reviewing shops, attractions and restaurants can tell me so much more about a place before even stepping one foot into it.
As a vegan student traveling, the struggle is real to get some good AND cheap vegan food on the go depending on where you go. A lot
of countries don’t have that kind of awareness for this specific lifestyle and a lot of vegan places label themselves as hipstery and chic which makes them overpriced and usually not even better than other ones.At the beginning of my travel to Asia, I figured that the best workflow to look for vegan places, save them and navigate to them is Google Maps. I researched tons of places that I could check out and was more than happy to take advantage of the great submissions other people shared. When I was about to leave a city, it sometimes even left me sad when I saw all of those marked points on my Google Maps that I didn’t manage to visit.
I can’t deny that I’m a foodie.
The only thing that I was unsatisfied with is that people were so vague about prices. I’m a college student and wanted to make the most out of my money starting with traveling as a backpacker. Still, sometimes I would get to a place and realize that the prices are insane cause some tourists would just write in their review “prices are reasonable”. If you’re Bill Gates eating kaviar crusted in gold, then out of your perspective even that price would still be “reasonable” for sure!
So basically I started my mission to contribute to the community - the despaired vegans trying not to starve and the curious non-vegans - to document awesome food in a low budget price range (when actually naming the prices).
So I ate my way through Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Phuket, Phu Quoc & Sri Lanka (…and durian…).
The cheaper and tastier, the better! Now, returning from my journey, I’m not reviewing restaurants anymore but gyms…
Just kidding! ?
Focussing on finding non-expensive vegan food and sharing it with other people led me to one of the things I wanna contribute to in the world: making a plant-based, resource-friendly and caring and aware lifestyle more accessible to all kinds of people. I’m not one of those vegans trying to
push anyone into going vegan all at once or insulting someone for the way they are living. Everyone can choose their own way of living. Through my contributions and sharings I just want to show people a different way of living that can be beneficient for the environment, for other beings on our planet and for our health as well. And it doesn’t need to be expensive or difficult. One person alone cannot do everything but by sharing, caring and doing it together, we can all make a step towards a better, greener future - even if it first just starts at choosing a vegan meal over a dish with animal products once at a time.
