Good day!
You haven’t heard from me in a while?! I missed you too!
I was very busy preparing for my ‘First Ever Meetup’ hosted by TravellerG and co-hosted by me. I was invited by the Altruistic @TravellerG to co-host. I thought it was going to be a ‘piece of cake’ until I got into it!Phewwww
PREPARATION
First, I must tell you, my Mum is the stereotypical African Mama! Whatever you are asked to do, better be doing it well, else you are going to get some ‘whooping’; if not some of that, then, some tongue-lashing that may persist for a little over one hundred (100) years.
What I did not realize was that; there was a Male version of my Mum on another continent! They had a ‘chance meeting’ during the course of this preparation.
@TravellerG is a perfectionist!
Sequence
- Invitation - He invited me here on Connect, in the Comments
- Contact - Requested my Contact details in the Comments
- Notification- Notified #TeamIndia at one of the MeetUps
- Grooming - Sent a ‘YouTube’ video to watch, had a one-on-one grooming session
- Filing Application to the Google Team for the MeetUp - sent a draft of the application before it was sent
- Introduction to the team - A fabulous and professional Team of 16! You read that right! Sixteen Humans (including me)!
- Pre-Meetups - We had two; where we had a run of the events, it’s called a ‘Presentation flow’. We also had the Speaker with us.
- Editing of Documents - we had a shared folder uploaded to ‘cloud’, where each of us could edit and make comments on the documents that were going to be used
- One last Run - after which, we were all handed a document. The last document, ensured that; for each role, there was a 'backup’ person (Announcer, MC, ‘Slides Manager’, Presenter, Host, etc.). It helped me! Like; I knew at what point, I will be requested to speak!
PERSONAL PRESENTATION
I saw how much work had gone into this, so. I decided to give it my Best Shot! I was assigned among other things; the “Introduction of the Guest Speaker”.
I am not a Native Indian, right? So, I am permitted to goof up on some names? No, I wasn’t going to give a chance for that
So, I contacted JoseBenjaminG to help me, he was kind enough to do just that and to perfection! He has declared me his ‘Best friend’, everyone be nice to him, Por favor
I printed out my Script and rehearsed, till I became this confident;
MEETUP (D-DAY)
We had yet another rehearsal right before the event
Everything went as planned!
Of course, an official recap will come from the team. However, from my end, I will like to share these with you;
A
From SalmaanN, we got to know three things about the Google team.
- Google will give you an event you ‘dare’ not forget! In SalmaanN’s words; “a heart full of memories”.
- Google is benevolent! Imagine Google gifting each person a ‘Ricoh Theta V’
. The Team is a supportive team
- The Team is headed and managed by a very appreciative and supportive Admin body. This we see from the Pictures Salmaan shared. How? some awardees were awarded even for submitting ‘A Best application Video’.

From the team;
- So much effort was expended in organizing this meetup, it almost felt like we were planning for the Connect Live 2021!
- I haven’t found a more dedicated team elsewhere. I want to say a very big thank you to the members of the team!
- TravellerG sir; what an amazing leader you are!
- Jaison sir; thank you for your forthrightness and meticulousness!
- Anil Singh:
your sense of humor is unmatched!
and you find it in every situation
- Sathiya Raj sir; thank you for your administrative efforts
- Guru Priya Ma’am; your calmness and sweetness wins my heart every time!
- Govind Jha sir; thanks for managing the chat room
- Karan Chotlani;
thank you!
Karan, did a great job of managing those slides! You need attention, a great deal of attentiveness to do that! Manage slides when you are not in the same location?!
- Falguni darling;
I trust you.
- Shreeya baby; thanks for all the work and for going the extra mile to moderate the chatroom.
- Bhavana: babe! Your MC skills are amazing!
- Jose G. Benjamin; thank you for going ‘way out’. God bless you
- Riya M.; thanks for those words of encouragement
- Jasour Hassan sir; Thank you
- Mohammed Salmaan Nawaaz: thank you for being the Guest Speaker and humble star of the day
- CoolKriss
C.
For me;
What’s my take away from this Project? Yeah! If I call it a project, I won’t be wrong!
‘One Tree never makes a forest’. My people say; “Igbajo owo la fi n s’oya”! If you want to strike your chest and feel the impact, you have to bring together your fingers! No one ‘strikes’ the chest with just a finger, I mean what a lame ‘tap’ that will be! It was very hectic but I enjoyed every moment of this and I am grateful for the new friends I made on this journey.

For the Attendees;
We hope we were able to give you a Meet-Up you enjoyed Now, tell me what you loved and how this could have been better. Did you attend? Tag someone you saw at the meetup, this should be fun, let’s go
Thank you.
