Beauty of Kashmir - Episode 3 - My Camping experience at Sonamarg

Caption: Entry View of Green Glamping, Sonamarg.

Hello Local Guides,

Welcome to my 3rd Episode of Beauty of Kashmir. In this episode I am sharing my camping experience which I had at Green Glamping, Sonamarg.

After my Gulmarg Episode, my next trip was visit to Sonamarg. In my last episode I told that “Gulmarg” means “Meadow of Flowers” and now want to tell that “Sonamarg” means “Meadow of Gold”. In Urdu language, Gul means Flowers and Sona means Gold. Sonamarg is a hill station situated at Ganderbal district of Jammu & Kashmir which is around 85 Kms from Srinagar. In Sonamarg we were going to visit Thajwas Glacier about which I will share in next episode separately. After leaving Hotel from Srinagar at 10:00 Hrs, we reached at Green Glamping at 14:00 Hrs. During this journey I got below shots.

There are trekking routes from Sonamarg to Gadangabal lake, Gadsar lake, Krishansar lake and Vishansar lake in the range of Himalayas. The famous Amarnath Temple is just approximately 25 km from Sonamarg. The famous Amarnath Yatra starts from Sonamarg. There is dedicated bus station as Amarnath Bus Station at Sonamarg from which many buses goes to Amarnath Temple. Large numbers of tourists come throughout the year at Sonamarg due to important tourist attraction. Department of Jammu & Kashmir hosts River Rafting Tournaments every year many times throughout the year at Sonamarg. International teams always takes participation in it.

We were little tired by travelling for about 4 hrs. But as soon as we reached at Green Glamping, our tiredness vanished by its location and beauty around it. We were so happy and excited to stay there for one night. Camping at Sonamarg is an amazing experience. Nestled in the majestic Himalayan Mountains, Sonamarg is a picturesque valley with beautiful meadows, snow-capped mountains, and glaciers. The refreshing air and stunning scenery make it an ideal spot for camping.

Camping in Sonamarg is an adventure like no other. Located in the Kashmir Valley, Sonamarg is one of India’s most stunning destinations. With its gorgeous snow-capped peaks and stunning glacial landscapes, it is no wonder why people flock to this majestic region. Camping at Sonamarg offers a unique experience. One can experience the thrill of trekking and explore the lush green meadows, the pristine white snow, and the magnificent glaciers. While camping, one can enjoy a variety of activities like fishing, bird watching, mountain biking, and even snowboarding.

In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, camping in Sonamarg is also a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You’ll be able to spend some quality time with your family and friends, without any distractions. Plus, camping in the region is relatively inexpensive, making it a great option for budget-conscious travellers. After reaching camp site, our lunch was ready and we also were so hungry. Their dinning tent was also awesome and the taste of food was superb.

This campsite at Sonamarg is well-equipped with all the necessary facilities and amenities. This camp does not operate during winters due to ice. So it’s best to visit this place during summer. But though we visited this in summer the temperature here was 15 deg Celsius during day and 2 deg Celsius during night… :fearful:

The nights at Sonamarg are quite chilly. But the beauty of the star-studded sky and the peaceful ambiance of the mountains make it a perfect place for camping. There is also a campfire to keep you warm and the possibility of spotting a variety of wildlife. We missed camp fire due to high cold weather, management did not allow camp fire for safety reason as there was a chance to rain. But it did not rain… . The staff was very co-operative and helpful.

Hi @user_not_found thank you so much for reading and responding to Post. Yoghurt was not so much sour. Yes they sweeten it. In India most of the people always sweeten it. It’s tastes better when eat with Paratha. But it all depends on people. Some likes without sweeten some likes sweeten.
