Hey there, I’m Praveen Mark from Sri Lanka. I love sharing on google maps especially on Sri Lankan wildlife, nature and historical places of importance. Sri Lanka is embedded with rich wildlife sanctuaries and forests. Our country is also rich with thousand years of history. I love sharing pictures and photos of Elephants and Sri Lankan leopard.
I’m passionate in finding out more about worlds best wildlife sanctuaries especially in Kenya. Sri Lankan elephant is comparatively nice and look elegant. This mammal is in the IUCN red-list and they are nearing extinction.
Fortnight ago I visited Minneriya National Park in Habarana Polonnaruwa road. This national park is famous for tuskers. Many foreigners, locals visit here daily. Minneriya tank is another place inside the park which is a rainwater reservoir which irrigates paddy lands. We went in a safari jeep in dusty road that leads to the park. It was a dry day. Wild Peacock is a common bird here. There are 25 spices of mammals, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles in Minneriya.
I the evenings you can see large groups of Elephants gathering to drink water from the Minneriya tank. There are large water-birds too.
Minneriya National park has no place to stay unlike other national parks in Sri Lanka. But there are many hotels and resorts in Habarana, Sigiriya, Giritale and Polonnaruwa.
This is a must-visit national park in Sri Lanka.
