I love the nature, and as humans could definitely say we are the most responsible for keeping the balance in it. There are many different ways to show that you want to do something about the environment, and my decision was to become part from the local ecological organization.
From the various activities that were organized by our eco organization, I would like to emphasize the training course “Green Enterprise” which meant that for a period of one week we have hosted about 20 young people from all around the Europe in our place, with main and formal purpose to generate idea for eco-social entrepreneurship.
It was not a simple job to do with people from different cultural background, but I accept that as a challenge and I was constantly keeping in my mind that beside the main task I should be creative and interesting local guide. Most of our day time we’ve passed doing workshops following creative principles how to become green entrepreneur, reminding us to care, protect and love the nature. But, we wanted to put the balance even in our cultural exchange, and besides the busy afternoons we have scheduled two of our week afternoons to see the local points of interest.
As our area is famous with having many sunny days during the year, also with the tradition in wine industry, and the famous winery situated near the city was good choice for them to see themselves the wine processing and having the opportunity to taste the wine. The next afternoon we organized a short bus tour to the two medieval Christian orthodox monasteries about 10 km from our city. Those monasteries are alive, meaning that there are nuns living which were very pleased to host us, explain a bit about the history of the site, about the type of the construction, and open the door for their really beautiful gardens.
The days were passing, the course was about to end, and still we have the last night. As good hosts, we decided to spend the night outside in one local coffee bar with a table reservation for all of us, and in the same time not telling about the surprise that the waiters there will be with masks on them. Usually this is never happening, but during the carnival days in our city of Strumica (taking place at the of February, or beginning the March) is a big tradition in the entire city. Our group composed of young people was amazed from the atmosphere there, and from their faces you can see sincere mood of satisfaction…all this week maybe is the most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide.
We were thankful to all participants from various countries for shаring elements of their different culture, and definitely I as a Google Local Guide am pleased to share this with you.
