I will introduce San Francisco Bay area Hiking Trails, through these series of posts. This is fourth post of this series.
All pictures in this post are shot with Pixel 3.
Stanford Dish Trail is part of Stanford University Campus. Trail is a 3.7 Mile loop, it is pretty open area with not much trees to provide any shade on the trail. Place can get hot during summer, it is better to hike in the early mornings or before sunset to avoid heat.
Trail has lot of up and downs, specially at the Stanford Avenue entrance it is a steep climb. However during Covid trail has been made as one way, you can only hike in one direction to maintain social distancing.
In fact California is fully opening today(6/15/2021), we need to see when these restrictions will be lifted.
Regarding the dish, it is a radio telescope, it is still in use by Stanford University. This area is also used for other studies by University.
Once you gain some elevation on the trail, you can enjoy the view of silicon valley, including Bay bridge, San Francisco downtown skyline on a clear day.
Trail it self is open to public, opens early morning and closes around sunset. Here is the map of the area and trail.
