Bay Area Hiking Series: Skyline Ridge Preserve

Collage of pictures shot by LG @jayasimha78

I will introduce San Francisco Bay area Hiking Trails, through these series of posts. This is sixth post of this series. In this post I will take you back to bay area mountains near Hwy 35 Skyline Blvd.

All pictures in this post are shot with Pixel 3.

Here is the map of Skyline Ridge Preserve. Skyline ridge is very interesting place to hike, it offers varied landscape spanned over 2143 Acres. There are couple of ponds in the preserve, Horse Shoe Lake and Alpine Pond. Preserve also offers Ridge vistas and meadows. There are over 11 miles trails in the preserve.

In fact these pictures are collection of two different hikes we did.

  1. From Skyline Ridge Parking lot, we did Horse shoe Lake and Christmas Tree Farm trail

  2. From Alpine road Parking lot, we did Sunny jim trail

Trails are highlighted on the map below.

Here are few pictures from the Horse Shoe Lake Loop hike!

Fantastic post, was that a private residence in the 5th last photograph or was it a hut for Birdwatching? Looks beautiful there.

@AlekseiKochypalov Thank You!

@helga19 We did this hike on a week day, so very few people were hiking at that time. However place does get busy during the weekend. However since it is a huge area, you will feel like you are last in nature!

@user_not_found Thank You! It is David C. Daniels Nature Center features imaginative displays that both children and adults can enjoy. However it is currently closed due to Covid restrictions.

Fantastic, thank you for the update.

Nice photos @jayasimha78 The lake looks like the perfect place to stop and just relax and take a deep breath. Its great that parks have some accessible areas.

Everything was cool until I saw the mountain lion sign, I think that is the kind of motivation some of us need to run really fast :joy:

Thank You, you are absolutely right, it is a great place to relax and enjoy the view. So far pretty much all the hiking trail parking areas have accessible parking.

Regarding Mountain Lion, in fact there was one sighted two days after we visited another trail which is in a different area though. However as per experts running is not a good idea!. Here are the tips. However I am not sure what I will do when I see a Mountain Lion :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. Stay calm. Hold your ground or back away slowly.
  2. Do not approach a lion.
  3. Do not run from a lion.
  4. Do not crouch down or bend over.

Thanks for the tips @jayasimha78 , I tried to zoom in in the photo, but the letters are really tiny

It is always good to be ready, but same as you, I don´t know how I would react in that situation.
