I will introduce San Francisco Bay area Hiking Trails, through these series of posts. This is 12th post of this series. In this post I will take you to Black Diamond Regional Preserve which is located in Anticoh, CA. In fact this is located right next to Contra Loma Regional Park, which I introduced in my previous post of this series. Generally California hills are brown in color due to lack of rain. However we recently we had series of rain last months, all these hills have turned in to green in color, which really enhances the beauty of this place.
According to Preserves Website: "The Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is a 6,000-acre park located north of Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County, California under the administration of the East Bay Regional Park District. The district acquired the property in 1973
This regional preserve is located just a mile from where I live now."
This preserve is very popular with Hikers, Mountain Bikers, Dog Walkers. Yes Dogs are allowed with leash.
Also there are two camping areas in this preserve.
According to park Website: “The Preserve’s 65 miles of trails traverse areas of grassland, foothill woodland, mixed evergreen forest, chaparral, stream vegetation and exotic plantings. Notable among the latter are several tree species introduced by the coal miners. These include the black locust, pepper tree, almond, eucalyptus and tree of heaven.”
I have barely scratched the surface of the this park, with a just few hikes. There is a lot more to explore with 65 miles of trails in the preserve.
Here are few pictures I have captured during my hike, I have used Nikon D850, Pixel 3 and that competitors phone
Collage of photos captured using Nikon D850. You can see the preserve sign, a lone hiker and few green rolling hills!

Recent rains have helped the hills to become green, otherwise you will end up seeing brown hills in this preserve.
One more shot of green hills!
Here you can see Mt Diablo peak from a distance.
You will come across few trees once you reach top of the hill.
