Batticaloa Lighthouse the Landmark

On Nov 3rd I had to visit Batticaloa for Photo Walk & Tree Planting :evergreen_tree: Meet-up hosted by @IlankovanT ;.After the Meet-up Thushy brother took us around Batticaloa, Specially to Batticaloa Lighthouse

Road to the lighthouse is a lovely road alongside the lagoon with great views. The road is in good condition with not much traffic and the many trees give plenty of shade. Perfect for cycling!

Batticaloa Lighthouse is located few kilometers from the town of Batticaloa on the Bar Road, This lighthouse was built in 1913 by the British and standing 92ft above sea level.

Lighthouse was renovated after the east coast of Sri Lanka was badly effected by a major tsunami In December 2003… With the foreign aid agencies visiting this area after the tsunami it got a much needed face lift with USAID tsunami relief funds.

We were not allowed to go up, not sure whether need to get the permission prior. You can get a beautiful lagoon view from down. If you go up, should be able to see the town, Kallady Bridge, beach and some iconic areas.

Opposite of lighthouse you can see a small Eco-Park island and can accessible via boat and small kayaks.

Further Boat safari is also available up to Batticaloa Dutch forth and highly recommend to do this and We can see Lagoon mouth connecting the ocean is just in front of the Light house

I saw many locals and tourists from different locations and different languages … I didn’t find any information about the light house around so i wrote a detailed reviews about the lighthouse and place. and i encouraged few tourists to find more information and reviews in Google Maps app about the lighthouse. My Review

This place is very popular with families as there is a children’s playground near the light house. But it was not visible, not known by new visitors and I didn’t find street view on map also.

So I borrowed @IlankovanT ;‘s 360 Cam and extended the street view to the Children park and parking on google map, Thank you brother for Teaching me about street view and 360’ Cam.

Happiness is seeing your Contribution in Google maps…

It could be pretty good if Local Guides like us can host a Cleanup and photo walk with Tourism Association and open it up to tourists. It’s in a great spot (obviously by the water!) so it could be made into something worth visiting for Families,Children and Tourists
