Batara Srinten Lake actually is a reservoir that covered ancient small lake. So, don’t think about natural lake.
The location on southern east of Yogyakarta city, Indonesia, in the highest hilltop of Gunungkidul, 950 asl. From this place you can see Prambanan Temple with the background of Merapi Volcano, the Jombor Klaten Reservoir, the city of Solo and New Solo, the Gajahmungkur Reservoir, Wonogiri city, Wonosari city with a thousand mountainous expanses … 360 degree rotating eyes, will stumble into the charming panorama.
The lake itself, is artificial, indeed, same with lake of Nglanggeran, 10 km western. The lake is the work of the Yogyakarta provincial government to preserve the nature surrounding, as well as a source of water for surrounding villages.
To reach the lake is start from the Nglipar-Ngawen road, east of Yogyakarta city, while in the Kedungpoh sub-district you just follow the district road and climbed up to about 7.5 km, while only 5 km was paved, the rest climbed the pavement road between rock-solid dirt roads.
