Bánh Canh Ruộng - a special cake soup from Da Nang, Vietnam

I already experienced a trip to Da Nang – Hoi An – Hue which are at the central of Vietnam. Apart from wonderful places and sightseeing, food is always an integral part for any travelers, and I am not an exception.

One of the amazing foods that I had a chance to taste at Da Nang called Banh Canh Ruong. “Banh Canh” is cake soup which is a Vietnamese noodle that can be made from tapioca flour or a mixture of rice and tapioca flour, “cake” refers to the thick sheet of uncooked dough from which the noodles are cut (Following to Wikipedia). “Ruong” means a field, it indicates that this store is previously near the field, then the name of “Banh Canh Ruong” was born from then.

The ingredients are really simple which are inclusive of slices of Banh Canh, fish cake, spring onion and a special soup which is a decisive factor for this dish. More important, there is separated bowl of grilled fish and dried onion which is a must that you have to call to add in your bowl of Banh Canh. Mix it together, enjoy it with a bread if you prefer, then the total is only 20,000 VND (under 2 USD).

Address: this store does not have an exact address, it’s at the end of Thuan Phuoc bridge and a crossroad of Tran Hung Dao and Le Van Duyet street.

Pay attention: you have to pay attention to your bike when you park in front of the store, there is not a bike keeper.

Hi @UyenHuynh ,

Thanks for sharing with us!

It is indeed another surprising dish from the Middle - South! : ]

I do wonder, if you could tell uf how the broth would taste like, as it seems to have the consistency of the normal rice porridge.

Kudos for the details at the end, I do think with the description people would easily find the place!

@sonnyNg : Yup, It somehow tastes like the soup of rice porridge. But as I mentioned, we should add grilled fish and dried onion into a bowl of Banh Canh Ruong, it may make the whole taste more perfect.

Fried onion is also my must-have condiment, to almost any noodle and soup based dish!
