Balkan Easter Trip - part 1

As Easter is approaching and plans are yet to be made, I felt nostalgic about the amazing Balkan trip I did last Easter.

As we had two weeks of holidays, the perks of being a teacher, we caught a flight from London to Split, Croatia, with no solid plans made, what an adventure should look like!

Arriving in split, we decided of course to check the very famous Krka park. So we headed to Sibenik by bus and then we hitchhiked to a camping area in Lozovac were we stayed for the night.

The rainy Split

The next morning we headed to Krka park, where the views and the scenery were amazing. Waterfalls, hiking trails, trees and nature. What else to ask? Even the weather was not that warm yet, we couldn’t resist a swim in the river!

After seeing Krka national park, we visited the gorgeous Marušići, where we stayed for a few days couch surfing at a hostel :slightly_smiling_face: There we finally found some good weather, we swam, ate fresh fish and watched the sunset. We used Marušići as a base, and from there we visited other villages and towns from which Makarska and Omis stole our hearts. Omis has a fortress that takes a strenuous hike to reach, but the views were rewarding.

We decided to leave Croatia after this and visit beautiful Bosnia. Catching a coach back from Split to Mostar, we needed only a few hours to be there. Mostar’s river, Neretva, makes this city unique. We had a great big lunch and some drinks meeting locals who proved to be very friendly and warm people.

But soon we were hungry for more adventures! So we headed up north, finding the only campsite open at that time for rafting down the river: The rafting center Drina-Tara in Foca. Our accomodation was actually a wooden bungalow surrounded by the beautiful mountains. Our rafting experience was more than great, and we got to swim in the river too!

After our rafting experience, we decided to head to Montenegro. We visited the gorgeous Piva lake and then headed to Podgorica. The bus ride was long and we were tired, but arriving there and seeing yet another city was refreshing!

Next destination for our trip was Albania, for which I’ll write on my next post ! Till then,

Safe trips !
