BALAT AREA MAP UP - MAY 21

Hey Googlers, Local Guides -

May is one of the best months to visit Istanbul. Spring is still in the air, the flowers are still in bloom and the Bosphorous is home to schools of dolphin.

If anyone is available to meet up - I want to suggest meeting at the Cumbali cafe, right across from the Synagogue. We will then take a walking tour up and down the hills of Balat to map up the sites that are not currently listed on Google maps - including local medical facilities, pharmacies and counseling centers.

Balat is one of the most diverse parts of Istanbul - where most of the refugees settle, where there is a diverse influx of citizens from all over the world. This is where we need to make sure those that come to visit/live in this beautiful city know where they can access the medical/health needs that they may have. Let’s have a fun day working, walking and interacting with those in Balat.

Let me know re: comments below and I’ll be happy to organize the meet up time.

Hi @cigdemd ,

Thank you for sharing!

I recommend creating a meet-up on our meet-up site and interested Local Guides in your area can indicate their interest via RSVP. You can share your meet-up more widely on your social channels, which may garner your friends or family to become Local Guides too!

Some more information that may be helpful, especially if it’s your first time hosting:

I am going to move your post to the Meet-ups section because it fits better there. The Idea Exchange is a place to share your ideas and feedback about Google Maps and the Local Guides program.

See you around!
