'Bakharkhani', a traditional dish of Old Dhaka(পুরান ঢাকার ঐতিহ্যবাহী খাবার 'বাখরখানি')

Popularity of Bakarkhani in Dhaka:

It is said that the name ‘Bakarkhani’ was given to the dish after Aga Baker and his wife Khani Begum. Initially, it was a favorite dish of the Nawab family, but later it spread among the locals. ‘It is not just a dish, but a symbol of the heritage of Old Dhaka’.

The first Bakarkhani shop was established in Dhaka near Lalbagh Fort during the Mughal rule. Bakarkhani is a very popular breakfast food for the residents of Old Dhaka. It is not known exactly when Bakarkhani was started in Dhaka. However, the first Bakarkhani shop was established near Lalbagh Fort in Old Dhaka. Bakarkhani’s popularity is now found in various areas of Dhaka, including Nazirabazar, Tantibazar, and Laxmibazar.

Despite being so old, the demand for Bakarkhani has not decreased. Rather, its demand is increasing day by day with time. This Bakarkhani was made with Malai and butter. This Bakarkhani was made by mixing milk Malai and butter with flour and making yeast. Small pieces were given separately from the prepared yeast.

Bakarkhani is basically sold by the kilogram price. About 25 to 27 pieces of Bakarkhani are available per kilogram.
