Bakarkhani is one of the traditional dishes of old Dhaka.
This bakarkhani came into use around the mid-eighteenth century. They start by eating this bakarkhani for breakfast. This bakarkhani has both salty and sweet taste, bakarkhani is like a biscuit to eat. This bakarkhani is made with wheat, milk, flour, ghee, dalda, butter. Although round like bread, it is small and thick.
The bakarkhani of Chittagong is juicy again, there is some variation of bakarkhani from place to place.
Basically this bakarkhani has an old history behind it, the bread is named after Aga Baker, the adopted son of Nawab Murshid Quli Kha. It is again heard that Mirza Agar Bagh popularized this bread in Dhaka.
I had this Bakarkhani in Dhaka, both mildly salty and mildly sweet, but I liked the sweet Bakarkhani very much.Hot bakarkhani tastes really great, but when cold it tastes a bit different.
