The Badal Mahal Gate attracted me since highschool days, almost 30 yrs back, and visiting Chanderi in MP was my dream since then. Last month I traveled 550 km from Delhi to realize it.
I took the road from Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi - Lalitpur - Chanderi
I must warn that the road from Lalitpur to Chanderi is closed at the railway crossing and some kind of bypass is provided which is in extremely bad condition. It is advisable to take the route via Talbehat and Jakhora.
The town of Chanderi where the Badal Mahal Gate is located is also famous for the Chanderi sarees. So you may also look out for authorized centers on the way that sell these items.
The entry fees to the Badal Mahal Gate is Rs.30 and there is very limited parking for only a few vehicles, so you may have to park on the roadside.
Accessibility Features
Ramp Access.
Wheelchair-accessible Entrance.
Wheelchair-accessible Restroom/Toilet.
Wheelchair-accessible Seating.
Wheelchair-accessible Parking.
Also do not forget to take a stroll around the broad walls and peep into the nicely constructed well which is inside the premises.
Until then… Happy Guiding

Good you finally realised your dream @TusharSuradkar , It’s all about taking that first step! The gate looks very impressive, I really like the details on it.
Can you tell us anything about its history? Was this gate protecting something back in the day?
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, @MortenSI
Coming from a moderator, this means a lot to me as a budding contributor.
The Badal Mahal Gate is not an entrance to a place or palace. It is one of the isolated gateways that are common around Chanderi and erected to commemorate certain important events.
This imposing gate was constructed by Sultan Mehmood Shah Khilji, the King of Malwa, in the 15th century.
It was built to mark a significant victory during his conquest of the neighboring region, though neither the locals nor the guide was able to tell which battle exactly and in what year.
I wished I could include more details like these in the main article but not sure if this would be good practice and if it is encouraged. Kindly advise.
Happy guiding

That’s really interesting @TusharSuradkar and good to see that they take such good care of it. It looks to be in top condition considering it was built half a century ago.
It’s always great to see more information about the topic you’re sharing, however we encourage Local Guides to share the details in their own words rather than from an external source.

Thanks, @MortenSI
Every line in the main post and in the replies are my own words, though the sources of information are many, primarily the ‘in-person’ local guides near the monument.
I appreciate your advice. Thanks again for the same.
