Social media gives us plenty of ways to discover the beauty within our Island. Cebu is by far the most visited Island in the Philippines. Apart from its beautiful beaches, the mesmerizing mountains always take your breath away. I always feel kilig when I go on a road trip or a mountain trip with my #travelbuddy because I always picture myself on the rise, literally.
Anyway, last weekend, we visited Theotokus shrine and Fr. Teofilo Camomot’s Museo. We wanted to just be away from home and experience solitude. Sometimes, we are bothered with how much noise we’re getting from the city so we go on an unplanned trip to either the beach or the mountain. It’s the greatest escape we could make. So, we went to Theotokos first. It’s an uphill
shrine with a huge statue of Mother Mary with a vast view of Naga ocean. It was a fine Saturday but the heat of the sun beat me. So we stayed there for an hour and went to Fr. Teofilo Camomot’s Museo. It was just a good 20-minute travel after Theotokos because these two places are just in Carcar. We were not allowed to take any photos we went to Fr. Camomot’s shrine.
Fr. Teofilo Camomot is actually the third Filipino saint. Although it hasn’t been officially announced I guess the catholic process for his sainthood is ongoing so he will be declared officially by then. The place is astonishing and we learned so much from his life, his teachings, and his experiences when he was still a priest.
After staying in Carcar for an hour or so, we decided to go back to the city but it felt like we’re missing something during that trip. Then we remembered there was this new attraction in San Fernando called Bacalla Woods. We contemplated whether going there is a good idea or what because we read in a post in Facebook that it’s really far from the highway. But we were determined to go. At first, we just really wanted to check if the road was as bad and we’ll then turn back if it was. And so we went. It turned out that the road going to Bacalla called Ilaya’s fine. We enjoyed it and even compared it from the roads we took from our previous trips. Sure, it was a highland but the view is really AWESOME. I think the only struggle is going there.
When we set our feet to the place itself, it really surprised us not because of the view, but because there were quite a lot of campers there. I wish we stayed there overnight and made friends with whoever was there. All the people there were very nice to us. They took our photos and just let us wander around. We’re not complaining. There are different activities to do there. There are also hammocks, already-built tents and many more.
