‘Baa ri Haveli’ simply means the mansion of the elderly lady.
This is a medieval-era mansion within the walls of the Jaisalmer fort.
It is full of the riches of the past arranged beautifully.
The presentation of everyday objects is impressive.
The museum entry fees are nominal and there is no parking space since it is located in narrow lanes.
This is a 3-storey mansion of a rich merchant of Jaisalmer.
Their clothes and other collections are nicely maintained in the museum.
The sheer number of doors and the various locks they used is bewildering.
Outside the ‘Baa ri Haveli’ mansion is a beautiful street clock showing time to the passer-byes.
Also, in the lovely tradition of Rajasthan is a painting of Lord Ganesh announcing the marriage alliance of ‘Rakesh with Radhika’ that took place on 22 April 2019.
More on such paintings in Jaisalmer in this post.
Accessibility
The museum is not accessible to the differently abled.
Where to Stay
I stayed in the Sagar Guest House inside the Jaisalmer Fort.
This place also has a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view of the city, the palace, and the desert.
