Avelo - Toronto: Plant Based dining at its finest

Avelo is a truly amazing plant-based experience. The presentation and flavour of the food can not accurately be described with words, it must be experienced.

You have the choice of a five or eight coarse meal, the five coarse is $65.00 per person (CDN) and the eight coarse dinner is $95.00 per person (CDN)

If you are ever visiting Toronto or if you live here and want to experience what amazing chefs can achieve using only plant-based food I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

a reservation is highly recommended

Avelo Restaurant

The eight coarse dinner started with Sunchoke Soup with persimmon puree and sunchoke and persimmon chips.

The next dish was Coca, Flatbread with parsnip chipotle sauce, roasted fennel with Morita chilli and maple-tamari teriyaki.

The next dish was Celtuce, Lettuce stem with tofu bearnaise, pomegranate & beet syrup, sumac & zucchini crisp and pecans.

Next on the menu was not part of the coarse, this was a pallet cleanser which was called - Amuse Bouche. This consisted of a Pistachio cracker with huancaina sauce, edamame and salsify purees and long-cooked black shallot.

The next coarse was Celeriac, Salt baked celeriac with skin, celeriac puree and crumble, pickled celery and dark celery sauce.

The next dish was Truffle ravioli, with provencal inspired aigo bouido veloute, shaved white truffle and grilled chanterelles.

Up next was the Potato Galette, with a warm salad of Brussel sprouts & figs dressed with celery vinegar, placed on tomato sofrito with yeast garum and finally drizzled with herb oil in oat bechamel.

The next dish was Wheat berries risotto with quenelle of porcini mushroom puree, grilled hedgehog mushroom and carrot & lemon foam

The last Palate cleanser of the night was Fresh apple slice with apple kombucha reduction, black apple and fermented apple crisp.

Since we were a couple we got 2 different desserts. The first one was Black garlic ice cream with cookie crumbles and drizzle of tamari/chocolate ganache.

The other dessert was a Sage and grape tart with pistachio charcoal crust and sage syrup.

Hi @Michael_Hancock

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos. Wow these dishes look so good, that I really want to taste them. I’ve been looking for a vegan restaurant for a long time that actually serve something like this. It all looks delicious.

Was this your first time? How did you like the food? Which was was your favorite dish? Are you plant-based yourself or just trying out something different? :slightly_smiling_face:

By the way, I’ve resized your photos to stand out more and really showcase the amazing food.

Hi DanniS,

This was indeed my first time to Avelo and yes I have been vegan for 5 years now (and was vegetarian 4 years before becoming Vegan). All the food was outstanding, but the ravioli had so many different flavours it’s unbelievable. That and the risotto were my favourites. Thank you so much for adjusting my pictures, this is my first time posting here and it definitely won’t be the last.

That’s great! I’ve been a vegetarian for already 17 years and I’m really curious about trying out vegan food. Keep in mind to always use the tag @ when you’re replying, so that your message doesn’t get lost.

Thanks!
