“不到长城非好汉” / “bu dao chang cheng fei hao han” means one who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero. It does not mean that if you have not reached The Great Wall yet, you are not considering as a hero. In Chinese culture, this phrase has another deep meaning which are one should not give up until one succeeds and one should be determined to reach one’s goal.
The Great Wall of China is totally huge and long as it was built to defend against enemies. It has a lot of section from the restored area until not restored at all. I visited one of the restored and famous section, 慕田峪长城 / mutianyu changcheng / Mutianyu Great Wall that is located for about 70 km / 2 hours driving or by bus from Beijing. There are 23 watchovers here. Apart from hiking fully that could take a longer time, you could reach The Great Wall either by cable car up to the watchover number 14 or the exciting way by riding toboggan (only for going down) from the watchover number 6.
What a great experience you had! I’ve always wanted to see the Great Chinese Wall with my own eyes but so far, I haven’t visited China. Maybe some day in the future I will. I think you made a great choice going there during autumn season as the trees are really colourful. What was your favourite moment there?
The Great Wall is totally amazing! Since The Great Wall has a lot of section, I wish someday I could climb another section.
Yes, I also wish you could come to China and climb The Great Wall someday
My favorite moment was walking along the way the long wall (since it is too long, definitely not fully climbing) while enjoying the sunshine, the colorful trees, and fresh air.
