Letting Google Maps track your location makes suggestions for which reviews you could write more relevant. But adding reviews and photos is in my experience not dependent on your Google Location settings.
If you are having problems with adding photos and reviews it is more likely related to you not being aware of the guidelines for such contributions.
As you can read in Find & control your Web & App Activity “If Web & App Activity is turned on, your searches and activity from other Google services are saved in your Google Account, so you may get more personalized experiences, like faster searches and more helpful app and content recommendations”
Regarding Google Maps, Web & App activity is tracking your Answers in Google Maps.
Please read Answer questions: Make sure you have the latest updated Google Maps.
Make sure that your Web & App Activity is on.
Open the app and make sure you’re signed in.
It means that , if your Web & App activity is turned of, your answers will be deleted and the related points not given.
This is not effecting in any way your photos and reviews. Suggestions for photos and reviews are related to your Location and Timeline only.
If you turn location and timeline Off you will not be prompted about adding reviews and photos of places you visited
Taking it off or deleting it after a timeframe is a choice that should be evaluated according to your use of the internet.
Someone find useful to be addressed to searches made time ago, others like to restart from scratch every time, not being influenced by previously made searches
@ErmesT Yes! However, whatever choice we make; whether to maintain web Web and App Activity or not seems to be contingent on whether certain Google Maps points are counted/deleted or not.
