Kataragama is important ancient city in Sri Lanka. From the end of July, Kataragama Perahera Festival is held for two weeks every year. Kataragama is unique temple complex dedicated to Buddhist and Hindu. During the festival period, some pious Buddhist take a long journey to this temple by foot and camp on the temple garden for two weeks. They take a bath in Menik Ganga and cleanse their body before they enter the temple because they believe the god of Kataragama lives there. At that festival, they wish for a year to be celebrated, and a new year to be reached. We can feel refreshed through their culture and philosophy. However, please be aware that the travel time takes usually double as long as the Google map.
