Right now, putting it very simply Australia is on fire. We’re only just at the beginning of our summer fire season and we’ve already had the worst bushfires in recorded history and have burnt out seven times more area than the Amazon wildfires in 2019. This is going to get worse over the next couple of months. Much worse.
If you are travelling to or within Australia it is absolutely vital you keep up to date with the fire information in the area(s) you’re travelling so that you don’t become a casualty. Don’t treat this lightly, your life is at risk, even in towns and cities. The northern suburbs of Melbourne lost houses this week. Some towns in East Gippsland in my home state of Victoria are gone.
We are safe at this time @Velvel currently I live in a town East of Melbourne in the Dandenong Ranges. We’ve just bought a house in the suburbs and the fire situation is one of the reasons behind our thinking.
@PaulPavlinovich , it is very tragic. I’ve been following the news for weeks now, hearing and seeing how worse they are getting. As you say, it is only the start of summer and things may get worse.
The smoke has travelled right across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand, even to the East Coast of the North Island, and turning white snowy mountains in the South Island, a caramel colour.
Wearing masks over the nose and mouth are going to become very necessary to prevent chronic breathing problems. You got something to cover your beard?
Yes @PaulPavlinovich i have seen last night on news this fire is on very large scale and already a fire fighter has died so God bless on Australia, Australia is one of my favorite country
@PaulPavlinovich This is horrible! We saw what this kind of situation can do to places when we were in Alaska this past summer. The fire and smoke impacts so much more than I had realized before I was in it as well. I’m so sorry to hear about this for the animals, people and the environment. Be safe and careful.
@PaulPavlinovich , Thanks for the warnings and information shared. Sad to hear what Australia is going through. I red that University of Sysdny has estimated half a billion mamals, birds and reptiles were parished since the start of this crisis in September.
Im glad you and the family are away from danger zone.
Incredibly devastating and so sad : ( The map of hot spots truly paints a picture of how urgent your message is to all those traveling and in Australia.Cannot fault your decision in trying to relocate - please be safe @PaulPavlinovich .Thank you for sharing this critical information.
According to TV news, about 480 million animals have died in the vegetation fires that covered the south-east coast of Australia.
This is true?
I can’t imagine such a catastrophe
This is very sad @PaulPavlinovich , terrible seeing that map and I’m very happy to hear you are safe! Keep strong, stay safe and thanks for sharing those crucial information. Hope the situation will improve very soon.
