Good evening ![]()
It’s evening on my side of the world.
FIRST MEETING WITH THE ORGANIZER
Some time ago (last month actually
), I was new on Connect and I started seeing this very cute badge; ‘The Street View Photographer Badge’. As with everything good, I wanted one too
Wanted one and was determined to get it, so I started asking questions, I will reserve the rest of my story till the day I get my badge ![]()
This was where I first met PaulPavlinovich! The Ease with which he talked about these things and the smoothness with which he answered my question just showed he was a Pro!
THE PHOTO SERIES MEET UP
What did you think I did when I discovered Paul was going to host not 1 but 10 ‘Online Photo Workshop Series’ Virtual Meet-Ups!!!
I signed up for all! ![]()
THE PHOTO SERIES ONLINE WORKSHOP VIRTUAL MEETUP #2
- First, Paul began by introducing his Co-Presenter; Max Gross; who left us all in stitches with his ‘explosive sense of humor’ and ‘great singing’

- Max Gross eased the initial tension I felt, because I am a Rookie’s Rookie when it comes to Photography. Besides, I thought the ‘Bearded Man’ was going to eat me up as he had said; he doesn’t tolerate lateness and was going to decline people from joining five minutes after he began
. I thought He was going to be very strict! This turned out to be a misconception as well! - Paul went ahead to show us the different kind of Cameras there were! Must I tell you that Paul has an amazing Collection!!! Among which were;
- A single Lens Camera he has had since 1991
- A Japanese type camera
- Point and Shoot
- Mirrorless Camera
- 360 Camera among many others
-
After which he got to show us 2 different kind of lenses there were; ‘An Amateur’s Lens’ and ‘A Professional Lens’
-
He showed us a very old kind of Camera that he said was the ‘introduction’ to the Digital Cameras we have today, that comes with a Sony Magic Tape (a kind of flash) that was just16MB
Technology has really improved things for us! -
Finally, the Camera we all are accustomed to; the Phone Camera

TOPIC
Basically, all cameras do the same thing which is; “take photos and make images”.
DIFFERENCES
- The Phone Camera has really clever software which many call Artificial Intelligence but which Paul chooses to call ‘Machine Learning’
- The Lens in a Phone Camera are pretty tiny, and the aperture which allows light to pass through but the Cameras have Sensors for this same purpose which affects the images
- The DSLR Cameras are capable of ‘Images Stabilization’ such that you can see what your image will look like
MIRRORLESS CAMERA
These are electronic Cameras that only have a shutter which you can decide to turn off. Taking Photos with these kind of Cameras, does not produce any kind of ‘shock’ that may lead to ‘blurry images’. These type of Cameras use Sensors in place of Mirrors to ‘pass light’ onto the Image you want to ‘shoot’.
There are some other types of Camera that comes with Mirrors, I do not remember what these ones are called. There are Mirrors in this kind of Camera, when one is not taking a Photo, the Mirror sort of sits at a 90 degrees angle, but when one is about to take a Photo, Light bounces off this Mirror and creates the kind of ‘shock’ I mentioned above. I love how Paul demonstrated this part.
GOOGLE PHOTOS
Max Gross presented this section. Using the Google Photos are essential because;
- Your Photos are automatically backed up
- Google Maps can easily tell the locations each of the pictures were taken when they are backed up to Google Photos thereby saving you a lot of time and effort
- Avoid taking too many Selfies
- You can easily search for items without remembering the exact date you took the picture by typing what you are looking for in the search bar
- It is free
DEMOS
Expose & Focus
After doing several demos, he gave us as assignment using the Album link, we should post our own ‘Expose and Focus’ Photo to the “LG WORKSHOP PHOTO SERIES 2 ALBUM”.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
- We completed a Poll, I will share the result shortly
- We were asked to feel a feedback form
All in all; @PaulPavlinovich is such an irreplaceable and great Photography teacher and leader! I enjoyed been at this Meet-Up, please visit his Profile and the Meet Up link to watch the video and read his recap as mine will do no justice.
Thank you so much Paul for this opportunity! You are the best! On a lighter note, you look so great without a Cap on!
Thanks for bringing on Max; the accredited Google Trusted Street View Photographer
He was a mood and more!
After reading all of these, what are you still waiting for? will you go and RSVP for Paul’s Upcoming class!
I think Paul is the Greatest of all time! When I asked for the kind of Camera I should buy, he said;
"Like many people say; the best kind of Camera is the one in your hands
To which, Max quickly refuted;
“the best kind of Camera is a 360 degrees camera” ![]()
Which Paul quickly shot back;
“You can use a regular camera to take 360 degrees photo using Panorama”
Max’ reaction after this!
Oh God! Max! If you are ever to go on a voyage where you are not permitted to laugh and you take Max along, best know you are ending up in jail or whatever punishment there is for that.
TIPS FOR BUYING A CAMERA
- What will you be using the Camera for, it is pointless buying a ‘hi-tech’ camera for ‘Connect’ since the Picture quality will still be reduced
- Weight. How heavy is the Camera
- How well can you handle it?
- Best: do not buy online, go to a shop where cameras are sold,they will show you several, buy the one 'you like’
P:S:- A Camera phone is a form of mirrorless Camera. Please visit Paul’s page to read his recap, I am only an ‘Attendee’
