Atta Abad lake (Khunjrab Pass Family Tour P-13)

A very famous sayings is Blessings in disguise exactly applicable on Atta Abad lake. It is very famous and big lake in Pakistan.I visited this lake 2 times first time with friends in 2017 and second time in 2018 with family.

Atta Abad Lake is about half an hour east of Karimabad, the capital of the Hunza. Now one of the five “Best Tourist Sites” in Pakistan by The Guardian).

This lake is not very old it has very interesting story. On JANUARY 4, 2010,A massive landslide thundered down the sides of near Hunza Valley. The village of Atta Abad was completely destroyed, 20 people were died and 26 homes destroyed.

The landslide gave the shape of a Dam to the Hunza River, and it rapidly rising waters of the newly formed lake threatened villages both below and above the dam. Soon the water level rose unto 300 feet, creating a lake that eventually measured 13 miles in length. As the lake grew,it flooded a 12-mile stretch of the Karakoram Highway, Now there was no road from one so if you want to go from one side to other side of Lake You have to take a boat for almost 13 km to cross the lake even cars and small trucks also can cross the lake using Boats.

From the disaster came an unexpected attraction that would eventually lead to a tourism boom in the area as Attabad Lake, a shimmering lake that is now one of the main attractions in the Gilgit-Baltistan.

This influx of tourists has benefited many of the locals who were affected by the landslide. And now that
the highway has been rebuilt with new tunnels, access is better than it was before. All income of Boat tours goes in the Pocket of citizens of destroyed villages.

So I says it “Blessings in disguise”. Now I want to Tell my friends who showed a lot of interest in previous episodes

@Muhammad_Usman I saw your tag yesterday (I have got two mentioning yesterday: about your post and your question). But I had no time to read your post yesterday, I didn’t want to read it fast, not paying the full attention for the details. It was right decision. Your post is worth to be read more careful. I really enjoyed it. This blue water, mountains, boats! Such picturesque photos! Such beautiful place! Surely it’s a real joy to spend time there.
