Arthuna Temple Group is located at MDR 83, Hanuman Garhi, Arthuna, Rajasthan. Situated about 12 km from Galiakot, the religious centre of the Bohra community, this archaeological site is a major centre for history buffs.
It was the capital of the Vagad Parmar rulers of south-eastern Rajasthan who were feudal lords of the Parmar rulers of Malwa. Its ancient name was Utthunaka. They patronised Jainism and they were following Shivaism as they were from Lakulish Sect. They constructed a number of temples around the Gamela Talab. Hanuman Garhi is the most significant temple complex named after the installation of the colossal image of Hanuman in 1108 AD.
According to an inscription of 1080, it was an important trade centre where brass items and liquor were mainly traded. The most sacred place in this temple complex is the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple with a stepped Surya Kund. Other temples include Hanuman Garhi, Chausath Yogini, Someshwar, Kumbheshwar, Jain Temple Group, Mandaleshwar, Khand Dera, Shiva Temple, etc. An inscription at the Mandalesvara temple records that the Paramara king Chamundaraja built a Shiva temple called Mandalesa in honour of his father in 1079 CE.
Bhushan built a Jain temple like wise Vishnu and Hanuman Temples are also associated with ancient era.
This is an archaeological site who are looking after this site having the remains of temples belongs to 10th to 12th century. In archaeological exploration they have discovered many inscriptions etc. It’s a protected monument of national importance.
