Argentinian Dining Experience

Thanks to the Local Guides community, I have many friends from Latin America just like @FaridTDF @Jesi @Cecilita @SilvyC , and many other Argetinian Local Guides. I was lucky to meet some of them in person before
I learnt a lot about Argentina, including the cities, destinations, culture, and of course about the FOODS!

Since I haven’t had any Argentinian dining experience yet, that’s why when I knew about this Argentinian restaurant in Jakarta, I would love to visit this restaurant.

The day was finally coming when we had lunch at Sudestada, an Argetinian and Latin grill, bar, and cafe at the same place. This restaurant is located in the corner part of a residential area in Menteng where the street parking is available along this not too wide street. They have both of the indoor and outdoor area. The indoor area is so light with the tall and big transparent windows that make the natural light ā€œentersā€ this indoor area.

There is also second floor with few tables. It is so beautiful to capture the interior of the first floor from the second floor, especially with the natural light from the sunlight :slightly_smiling_face:

The chef here is a native Argetinian, so no wonder that we could enjoy the authentic and delicious Latin foods here. Sudestada serves variant of pizza, empanadas, appetizers, sausages, sandwiches and wraps, rice and pasta, steak, desserts, as well as alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The foods are suitable for sharing.

Here are what we tried :

Hand-Cut Beef Empanadas
The deep fried empanadas that are similar with Singaporean curry puff filled with abundant of hand-cut beef with crunchy texture. It is served with the thin tomato sauce. A recommended snack and starter!

Matambre
Sudestada’s signature dish as the part of appetizer. Since this is a meat dish, for me it is more like a main dish rather than an appetizer :joy:
This is a grilled rose meat where the thin layer of meat is put between the ribs and skin, served with the olive oil. Somehow the tender texture is more like chicken rather than beef.

Fish & Chips
Well, this could be one of the non Latin dish that we had, but since we saw on the social media that the portion is big with interesting photo, so we decided to have this one
And yes, the boneless deep fried fish comes up with big size, served with the French fries, salad, and pink tartar sauce.

Flan De Caramelo
Flan is a Spanish caramel custard pudding. It is served with dulce de leche separately. Finally, I could try dulce de leche that is an Argetinian caramel. I love both of the flan and dulce de leche with less sweet taste rather than the usual caramel.

Gunung Halu in Kalita Wave
Again, this is a non Latin menu that I had. That afternoon, I really need caffeine, pure black coffee precisely. That’s why, I was so excited when I found out that Sudestada also serves manual brew with variant of Indonesian single origin that we could choose. I chose Gunung Halu from West Java with medium body and acidity using kalita wave method. The staff will brew the coffee directly on our table.

Overall, it was a good Argentinian dining experience with a nice place, delicious foods, and friendly service as well.

Have you tried Argetinian food before?
What is your favorite and recommendation?

The ambiance is nice indeed @Pratik_89 as well as the architecture.

Hehehe I wish this restaurant is near a beach, but unfortunately no. Guess what, it is located in a residential area. You could see clearly through this streetview

It’s so hard for me to say no to an authentic Argentinian empanada, especially with how many local places here in South Florida offer them :yum: - Sudestada looks like quite the exquisite experience, @Velvel . That interior design and ambiance is just incredibly inviting  .

Thanks for tagging me my friend @Velvel Sudestada looks amazing, what a nice place! Now you’re ready to visit us in Buenos Aires.

You know the fried empanadas looks good but here there are two different ways to cook them: fried (like yours) and at oven, I prefer the second way because I find it more healthy. I loved the Matambre too, here there is a popular dish ā€œMatambre a la pizzaā€ (matambre, tomato sauce and mozzarella) that is delicious (please, try it if you see in the menu next time). Finally the flan with dulce de leche is one of my fav dessert since I was a child.

Thanks for sharing this experience with us.

Silvy.

This is awesome, @Velvel !!! Everything made me hungry too hahah

The argentine food looks so authentic! The matambre maybe put in the plate ā€œtoo wellā€, not like I’m used to seeing it, but I can tell it was good.

Was the tomato sauce of the empanadas spicy? Most Argentines (or people from Buenos Aires, I’m not sure  ) aren’t used to spicy things, or to putting sauces in our empanadas, but I recently travelled to the northwestern part of the country and they served empanadas with a red spicy sauce.

Thank you for sharing!!

You’re so lucky to have many Argentinian restaurants around you @SP31 while I don’t have that much options here :joy:

But so happy to have this kind of Argentinian dining experience for the first time. I would like to try the steak as well, have you tried it before?

What is your favorite filling for empanada?

Oh I would love to visit Buenos Aires and meet you along with the other Argetinian Local Guides @SilvyC

Visiting Latin America is on my list, too!

Baked empanadas is interesting. Is it like this ? I love healthier choice as well.

Unfortunately, Sudestada doesn’t have Matambre a la pizza.

Yes @Nyainurjanah

Everything is about Argentina here, including the chef. One of the staff is Argentinian too, teh. I saw her (the Argentinian staff) served the Argetinian customers here by using their local language. It’s more impressive, isn’t it?

Before visiting a restaurant, especially the new one, I always do a small ā€œresearchā€ first by looking at the menu, review, photos, videos as well through Google Maps

Thanks @Sophia_Cambodia

I’m doing good. The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are decreasing now. Everything is almost back to normal. So grateful for that

How about you and the situation in Cambodia?

The matambre maybe put in the plate ā€œtoo wellā€ā€¦ Oh really? @Jesi hahaha…

Do you have the picture of the usual matambre serving in Argentina?

Well, the red tomato sauce isn’t spicy at all. I guess they made it just like the Argentinian’s taste.

Is the northwestern people love spicy?
