Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

I enjoy being a Google Local Guide because I want to show people the area of the UK in which I live - North Devon. We have such wonderful scenery including fantastic world famous surfing beaches such as Woolacombe, Putsborough. Croyde and Saunton, as well as the verdant rolling Devon countryside. The area has been designated as an AONB and we are very close to the Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks too. The wider area has been designated by UNESCO as a “biosphere” - one of 668 Reserves in 122 countries designated by UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme and was the first of 6 to be designated in the UK. The designation secures a better future by linking people and nature today.

Among the areas covered by the Biosphere and within the AONB is Braunton Burrows, an area of sand dunes which home to a wide range of very rare plants and animals. Here are a couple of short video clips of the Burrows.

I’ve only scratched the surface with what I written above - there is so much more to North Devon. I am passionate about this area and feel so fortunate to have chosen to live here. As well as the beautiful coastline, countryside and moorland, we have pretty villages with thatched cottages and ancient local pubs. The area is on the up for its food including Michelin starred restaurants and food festivals and we even have summer music festivals - not on the scale of Glastonbury - but smaller and more intimate and family friendly.

I enjoy being a Google Guide so that I can let other people know what a fabulous area this is and give them reasons to visit and share it with me.
