Are the Places added or the Listed Edits counted in the "Approved EDITS"? - TravellerG

Reg: Approved Edits

Though I am not very keen on my badges and score, for my academic interest I would like to know where I am going wrong.
I have added 255 places, 129 Edits, etc. But, my ‘Fact Finder’ page shows it as 79 out of 100 - are the figures 255, 129 are not counted in ‘EDITS’?
Or
Are there any hidden facts?

Yes, only approved edits are listed in your contribution stats.

If you add or edit a caption this will be counted in the main overview but not towards badges.

You can add a caption (text) to a photo. This kind of edits are included in your 129 edits but not in your 79 edits listed under badges. There might be other kinds of edits in this category. Maybe if you assign a menu item to a photo this will also not count as an edit towards your factfinder-badge.

Thanks for posting @TravellerG . It is a long time I want to ask the same questions.

Unfortunately there is some grey area in how some type of points are calculated.

In any case, Edits refer to Edits only (place added are not counted in there). But the difference still be present

Here below what I can see on my profile.

In maps there are several things identified as Edits, e.g adding a dish name (Tagging a dish), modifying a menu Item, editing a Business listing in Maps.

In my opinion only the last are officially considered edits (Edit business information in Google Maps ) for obtaining the Fact Finder badges.

I don’t think adding a new place is considered in the count, but I will be happy to receive a different feedback from a Googler

Even if writing a caption can help a lot visually impaired people, I don’t think is giving Points @MortenCopenhagen .

We are on relatively thin ice here. Having made thousands of edits and due the delay in getting the stats updated it is practically impossible to lure the system on this aspect. As hinted by @ErmesT it would be very nice if a googler would step in and explain these details.

I doubt that a Googler will step in to provide a detailed explanation @TravellerG @MortenCopenhagen @ErmesT , as this was also one of the specific questions I submitted for the most recent Ask a Googler post and no answer was given at all.

I am feeling very sad that even after these many days, we are not getting any proper guidance.

In fact, we ask their support to guide our communities, in turn - this will benefit Google itself… right?

Some facts I collected:

While on my recent medical rest (5 days back), I had some time & did a couple of “changes”.

1. Deleted duplicate places: 2 locations = both NOT approved (Pending Verification).

2. Reported ‘Doesn’t Exist’ places: 2 locations = both approved

3. Added some new missing POIs. 3 Locations = all 3 approved

4. Correction in Name: 1 location = Approved

Through Gmail, Google has confirmed/acknowledged 8 locations but I got a score of 6 (ie.179 came up to 185)

And:
Important: If adding places is considered as an EDIT, then I have added 227 places.

From the experience of other friends, my feeling is that such requests will be discarded over a period, making our waiting indefinite.
