Are the Local Guides in pause mode?

Hi Google Administrators, hi Google Moderators, hi Community Locals Guides,

My activity in Google Maps has been strongly altered for a few weeks now due to confinement.

I am aware that this situation we are experiencing has not only altered my activity, but also the one of all Local Guides, including Google. It is for this reason that there are several questions that I have about my activity on Google Maps and that I would like to share with the community.

Here are some of my doubts:

  1. After the different governments decreed confinement (and this goes by country) and for this reason most of the economic activities went into “pause mode”, can I continue to upload photos and comment on places where I have been before confinement?
  2. I can, I know, but should I keep doing it?
  3. With the places that I have tried I have observed that in my profile the photos are visible, I can even see the number of views, but when I go to the profile of this site my photos do not appear (even if I look at it with other mobiles).
  4. In short, can I continue or not with my Local Guide activity (upload photos, comments …) even if the place is “temporarily closed” (well understood the places I’ve been and took pictures before confinement).

I hope you can consider my timely questions and understand my concern. Thanks for your help!

You can check this announcement that mentions why there’s a slow down in how quickly content submissions are approved. And yes, it is weird that there is an increase in view count but you don’t actually see the picture under the venue. But I believe it’s a common thing and other Local Guides are experiencing the same behaviour.

And yes, you can continue to add reviews/photos/info to places in this current situation even though they may not be operating. What I would be careful about though is altering anything about the regular operating hours because obviously things are different now. If I’m not mistaken you can submit temporary operating hours if you do know what they are now.

Just be mindful that whatever you add to Google Maps may just take a bit longer than usual to get approved and show up on Maps. Hope that helps!

Oh yeah, duh to me… you already know about the announcement! :sweat_smile: Oops, sorry!

Personally, I haven’t added anything although I have tons of photos to add since Christmas (my brother came for a visit so we ate out a lot!). And yes, it’s a few months ago… I keep telling myself that I’ll do the reviews this weekend and then it’s next weekend… and now we’re in April!

But as per the update to the Announcement, some folks are starting to see their new submissions showing up properly, but your mileage may vary. Also, in a separate group chat, some folks were worried about accidentally uploading their photos twice because they can’t tell if the photos have been accepted properly so that’s another reason (I tell myself) why I’m waiting again!
