Are sharing new level/Badges are Off-Topic post

Hi @AriMar

Like to know where can a LG post a announcement about her/his experiences after completing a level/badge?

Mostly LGs sees their success achieved after earning a new Badge or level.

Adding @DeniGu

Is it a off topic post?

Please share your insights.

Hi @AjSingh generally if there isn’t a topic suitable to a particular post then it probably isn’t a great fit for Connect. Getting new badges should be celebrated. Talking about the badges you’ve achieved is an awesome thing to do on your social networks.

Please refer to Traci’s What Makes a Good Post article.

Generally when I’m thinking about posting here on Connect, I think about is my subject useful or interesting to other people? If it is then I’ll go ahead and post it, if not then perhaps its better on a general purpose social network.

If you were going to say something like after I got Level X I was motivated to continue and found new ways to contribute and described those ways and what changed for you then that would be great in Local Stories topic.

Hi @AjSingh ,

Just like @PaulPavlinovich said, celebrating the new badges and levels you unlock is a great thing to do on your/our social media channels. The Local Stories topic section is a place to share your inspiring stories as a Local Guide making a positive impact on society or supporting a good cause.

The current topics are carefully selected to reflect what’s popular on Connect and to make it easier for you and other Local Guides to find the posts you’re most interested in. If what you want to share doesn’t fall under any of the topics, your post may not be right for Connect.

To learn more about each topic, please read What are Connect topics?.

You can suggest an additional topic you’d like to see by visiting the Idea Exchange. Popular ideas will be reviewed by Googlers and taken into consideration.

If you have any questions or issues, feel free to tag me or any of the other Google moderators and Connect moderators.

Thanks so much for your understanding.

Hi @DeniGu @PaulPavlinovich

My idea of creating a new post for any new achievement to inspire my fellow LGs which are part of my LGC community because they know what I’m doing, and what’s the value or meaning of any Badge or Level.

Which others who are not aware of Local Guides and this community will never understand. That’s why it little meaningless on other social media platforms.

My or any other Local Guide’s experiences while supporting on the Google Maps are different from others, so when anyone complete any Badge or Level is quite clear to inspire, motivated and share with local guides.

If you say LGC community forum is not the right platform than I don’t have anything to say,

You guys are Moderators and you know better than me.

But believe me other social media platforms are definitely not going to work or good idea.

Talking about Google maps but restricting it on Google maps community… It sounds differently.

I believe most of the LGs sees LGConnect as the right platform for sharing/ discuss anything about Google maps.

Hi Dear friend @AjSingh @I think we can share our stories, experiences and badges under Local Stories.

Hi @Safdarrai

Now I also see and understand the same, thanks so much we are on the same page. After our Moderators @DeniGu & @PaulPavlinovich support and thier help,

I was just fail to understand why my yesterday’s post was removed stating that it’s Off-Topic.

Now I also got the right category for such topics.

But I was expecting someone to move the Post in the correct category, not to remove it claiming it Off-Topic.

Thanks to our supportive Moderators to clarify it for all.

But my post is still under Off-Topic and no one is able to share thier thoughts/replies.

Hello @AjSingh ,

I’m not sure where you get the notification saying that your post was off topic. Can you confirm your post is not under this link,

Keep us updated.

@deepakjhic that link isn’t useful in Connect 2.0 - you’ll only see old stuff there.

@Safdarrai since your post is in the archive folder it has been put there by a Googler, the volunteer moderators don’t have that ability. I’m surprised that you don’t share LG to your socials. The hashtags #letsguide #localguides #ongooglemaps #localguidesconnect are very popular. I’ve managed to get most of my non LG friends to join in with the fun of LG by sharing my achievements and how they make me feel. Sharing in here is like preaching to the already converted. Sure it will influence some people and if the post is crafted the right way with a small image and a paragraph of how it makes you feel and how it motivates you then you may be ok under Local Stores as @AjSingh says, but if your post was just a screen shot with “woo look at me” then well off to the archive it goes. This is because Connect is about sharing experiences and inspiring each other to achieve more on a deep level.

@AjSing please read the responses before you join a conversation, you contradicted a moderator and Googler with your response.

Hi sir @PaulPavlinovich I agree with your suggestions about to post on social media, I will follow your instructions after achieving little more badges or levels. I want to get high levels and more badges on maps contributing slowly but surely.

That’s only reason I am not active a lot on social media. What I think after level 8 I will start posting my achievements, badges and levels on social media’s. And on that time I will be fully aware of this new connect and will be knowing little more about maps because if someone ask me questions it will be very easy for me to answer them. I want to guide all of my social media friends and followers but in correct way not answering them wrongly. for now I am still learning.

Thank you sir again for your guidance.

Sounds good @Safdarrai contributing slowly is the best way to do it - then all your growth is high value both to you and to the people who are helped by your contributions.

Have a good day
