Aperitif in the laundry: wash clothes & eat food!

Didn’t you imagine a similar place exists? It really exists: in Milan there is a bar-laundry where you can wash your clothes while drinking or eating something.

I have had an aperitif in this place. For a fixed price they give you access to the automatic laundry room, you put the clothes to wash and then you have an aperitif while waiting. Have not used the laundry so didn’t take pictures in the laundry room: I still post here pictures of the bar area.

A really nice and particular idea which confirms Milan as open to new trends.

Have you ever seen similar places before?

Hi @user_not_found ,

Thanks for sharing!

This is a great idea, I can’t believe I’ve never seen this elsewhere.

If you regularly do you laundry at a designated laundromat, I think this is perfect for passing time. Back when I didn’t have my own washing machine, I relied heavily on the local laundromat and would go out for a cup of coffee while the machine was finishing anyway.

I wish we could see something like this everywhere, but I guess it’s kind of a niche business.

Are laundromats widely used in Milan rather than having washing machines at home?

@MortenSI Laundromats are not the first choice, but yeah, they are widely used. In a city which offers all the services you can imagine, some people (especially those who rent a flat and don’t want to buy many things to keep in a place they don’t own) are used to rely on external services in general. Obviously for those who own the apartment like us, buying the washing machine is much better, as laundromats tend to be much more expensive than washing at home in the long term. Laundromats are still a great choice for students, tourists on a long trip and, in general, people who don’t plan to have a stable presence in the city. But if I were a student renting a flat (unless the flats is already equipped with laundry machine, but this is not something assured) I would rely on laundromats too instead of buying something I would move with some difficulties in case of future moving of house (once I helped one of my friends renting house to move some items and it was something crazy, driving in Milan is really difficult for me and also finding parkings is like finding the Holy Graal here).

I agree with you @user_not_found , I find laundromats way too expensive as well. But if they all had a bar and served a bit of food, I might reconsider using them.

I think this idea should be implemented in all the places that we go to take care of everyday chores. I could imagine sitting at the bar while waiting for my turn at the mechanic or maybe the barber.
