Another great loss for Pakistan By Covid 19 - RIP Sister Ruth Lewis

The Mother Of thousands of Motherless Differently-Abled Children

Sister Ruth Lewis ( 19th July 1935 - 21st July 2020)

Hello, Local Guides,
Just a few moments ago, I was casually watching the news and heard the name of Sister Ruth Lewis, at first I thought it was just another person passing away, but when I looked at it more closely, the unbelievable news of Sister Ruth passing away struck me a like a bow that it was really her.

My relation with Dar Ul Sukun is not very old, but it was the relation with my heart, I was honored to met Sister Ruth Lewis Several times, and And meeting always went in admiring her charismatic and inspiring personality. And also honored to be invited as A Local Guide and addressed in front of this great lady and hundreds of other people on International Day for Disabled Persons on 17th November 2018.

Sister Ruth Lewis born on 19th July 1935 in Karachi and became a Catholic Nun in 1969. She was the first who joined and established the home for Motherless and Orphans children namely Dar Ul Sukun in Karachi.

On every Saturday morning, I and my Daughters would visit Dar Ul Sukun and spend some one or two hours with the children with disabilities, along with other dozens of Volunteers from different schools and colleges, who visit here regularly to teach differently-abled children such as making drawings, Poems, Dance and other different activities. Volunteers from schools and other organizations also help feed the children and play with them.

She was running Dar Ul Sukun without taking any help from Government and depending on many people and institutions who helped her to run a home for the children with different abilities.
She always praised the people who came and supplied groceries, clothes, or whatever they could do in their range to help the sisters in need of the institution.

Sister Ruth was especially proud of four of the children who won medals in the Special Olympics held in the United States in 1998.

On her last days, she was taking care of the Children who were effected by Covid19, and this became the reason for losing a Gem, COVID 19 snatched a wonderful lady, who dedicated her life to humanity and especially for the children who have disability problems.

Sister Ruth Lewis was really A mother of hundreds of Motherless Children. And she will always remain in prayers of thousands of people.

Some of the Beautiful Memories of Dar Ul Sukun, which I never forget.

What a loss for our community. Nobody can repay what she has done for the society and her efforts are no doubt priceless. But she will definitely be in a good place now. My prayers for the departed soul…:palms_up_together:

May God gives us the opportunity and strength to serve the humanity like her and other hidden gems who are the unsung heroes of our society.
