Today has been an exciting day in the Bay Area. @KimberlyAnnG and I got to go for a docent-led tour of the elephant seal Marine sanctuary at Ano Nuevo State Park Marine Center. What made it special was that we were joined by the leading researcher from UCSC.
You can check out my Bulletin by Google posting which has photos, video, and explanation of what we’re seeing.

Though we booked our outing with the Greater National Farallon Sanctuary exploration program that helps with their funding, you can book directly from the Anu Nuevo sure for a docent tour. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=523

Hello @Twister411 ,
This place is adorable, thanks for sharing!
Would you like to tell a bit more about the place and how to get there? Is this park opened every day? Was this the first time that you see Elephant Seals from that close? The baby seals are super cute, I wouldn’t stop myself from hugging them.
@Petra_M Ano Nuevo is roughly 50 miles south of San Francisco on State Highway 1. It’s a nice scenic drive. Because it was a Saturday morning, it took me about an hour to get there. It’s a state park so if you visit their website, it lists the hours and days it’s open. Parking is $10, cash only.
Yes this is my first time out there. I went with a special group because we had the Director of Ano Nuevo’s Elephant Seal program join us. He showed us some of the tagging equipment they used to track and data collection. Between the walk from the main park down the the sand dunes (this area is off limits, you must got with a group) we were able to talk to the volunteer docent and the director. They have some really cool stories to share with us.
Tours for elephant seal can be booked through their website.
Thanks for you reply @Twister411 !
It sounds very interesting and thanks for the useful information.
